Jeo Baby has brilliantly scripted and directed the movie by bringing in the contemporary socio-political scenario of Kerala. It also talks about independence and individuality of human beings beyond gender. The movie throws light on various aspects of a family which glorifies woman as its backbone. How she manages to come to terms with the system built by the society forms the movie. However, Nimisha’s character, who has a totally different upbringing from the house she has been married to that still believes in archaic customs related to menstruation, finds it difficult to survive. Any discomfort caused, no matter the reason, the women are meant to be apologetic.Īs the new bride becomes a wife, her life becomes a routine that is taken for granted. Kitchen plays an integral role in the movie where the women juggle between multiple things to keep the house in order and the men comfortable. After a quick pennu kaanal, her character gets married to a school teacher (Suraj Venjaramoodu) from a renowned family. The movie opens with a montage where Nimisha Sajayan is seen happily dancing while snacks are being prepared in a kitchen. But what about the way to a woman’s heart? Jeo Baby’s latest film, The Great Indian Kitchen, talks about the life of a married woman in India. It is said that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach.
